In April 2015, Australian citizens Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were executed in Indonesia following convictions for drug trafficking offences, almost ten years after the last Australian, Van Tuong Nguyen, was executed in Singapore for similar offences. The Lowy Institute has conducted several polls since February 2015 to understand Australian attitudes to the executions and to the death penalty generally.
